MABUL DIVE COURSES

Special online discounts

The Celebes Sea on Borneo’s eastern coast is home to one of the top 5 scuba diving locations in the world – Sipadan Island.

Mabul Island is a great place to start or progress in diving as many of the Mabul resorts and dive operators offer a wide range of PADI courses. From total beginners doing a Discover Scuba course to seasoned professionals looking to complete their Divemaster training or take Instructor Development Courses, it’s all possible at Mabul.

For a good mix of both types of diving, Mabul’s neighboring island of Kapalai offers some fantastic dive spots.

By decision of Sabah Parks and since October 2022, a Advanced Open Water (AOW) or above certification diving license is required to be able to dive at Sipadan. If you already have an Open Water license, it takes 2 days to get your AOW license while at the dive resort.

How to Start Diving

From being a beginner diver with basic equipment and safety knowledge to being a skilled diver who is able to navigate underwater, dive at night or dive deeper into the ocean, these courses will satisfy your thirst for knowledge and put you at ease under the water.

PADI e-Learning

To maximize your time, you can save one day of course by completing the PADI e-Learning (the theory part) online at home.

Advanced Courses

Being an Advanced Open Water certified diver is now required since October 2022 to be able to dive at Sipadan. If you wish to improve even more your scuba diving skills, becoming a rescue diver equips you with the skills to manage your own safety as well as help others out in an emergency, which is useful knowledge to have when spending time in an underwater environment.

There’s also the chance to progress even further to Dive Master and Diving Instructor level, where you are able to lead others on a dive or teach diving.

DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING

This quick and easy one-day course will introduce total beginners to the world of diving. Anyone over the age of 10 is welcomed on the course and it allows you to get a feel for the sport and whether it is something you’d like to pursue.

Discover Scuba divers are made to understand the basic safety considerations and how the equipment works before submerging and enjoying the feeling of breathing underwater and observing the natural world in our oceans. Give it a try, we bet you’ll be hooked!

OPEN WATER DIVER

PADI DIVE COURSE

This first official course aims to provide you with the fundamental knowledge required to scuba dive regularly without professional supervision (as long as an equal or more advanced buddy is with you).

The Open Water course is the start of your scuba diving adventure and is an exciting course that teaches the basics in an easy-to-understand way. Done over the course of 3-4 days, the Open Water qualification allows you to reach depths of up to 18 metres underwater.

ADVENTURES IN DIVING

ADVANCED PADI DIVE COURSES

If you’ve always wanted to try a night dive or want to dive deeper, this course is for you.

The PADI Adventures program offers 2 separate qualifications, Advanced Open Water and Adventure Diver.

To qualify as an Advanced Open Water diver, students need to take the Deep Diving and Underwater Navigation modules, otherwise they will remain at the Adventure Diver level.

This involves taking the Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Naturalist and AWARE Fish ID courses which promise to further enhance each subsequent dive.

PADI SPECIALTY DIVE COURSES

Similarly to the Adventures in Diving program, PADI’s Speciality courses offer you the chance to specialise in certain areas of interest and receive recognition for that specialisation.

Rescue Diver

PADI EFR & RESCUE DIVE COURSES

This challenging and rewarding 3 day Rescue Diver course aims to increase your confidence in the underwater environment, especially in emergency situations.

PADI Rescue Divers are taught to look for potential problems, know how to prevent them and know how to solve them if they do occur.

The course also teaches divers to look beyond their own safety and look out for other divers.

The Rescue Diver course is an all-important step for those looking to progress to leading dives or holding leadership/instructor positions such as Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Open Water Instructor.

PADI DIVEMASTER COURSE

GO PRO DIVING INTERNSHIP

The Divemaster course is the very beginning of a professional career in scuba diving.

The course expands your knowledge in a wide variety of diving-centred operations such as equipment maintenance and running the day-to-day of a dive shop or resort.

Divemasters work to assist instructors with their diving students, supervise the daily operations and of course do a fair amount of dives themselves.

Completing the Divemaster course is a solid commitment as you’ll need to have done at least 60 dives before you’re able to qualify.

Instructor Development Courses

PADI IDC

Taking PADI’s IDC puts you on a rewarding diving career.

Assistant Instructor

Here you’ll learn how to assist instructors when teaching courses and may even be able to take parts of the course all on your own. Remember the best way to learn is to teach.

Open Water Scuba Instructor

The next step after the Assistant Instructor Course is to take the Open Water Scuba Instructor course. This involves 4 days of training to get you up to speed with the PADI diver education system. This course will really help to develop you as a professional in diving education.

STAFF INSTRUCTOR COURSE

PADI CAREER

After the OWSI course, you can opt to become a Staff Instructor, allowing you to train the next set of PADI Instructors and assist them with their diver education journey.

As a Staff Instructor, you will manage an Instructor Development Course from start to finish, learning a great deal along the way and getting yourself one step closer to being a PADI Course Director.

As a Staff Instructor, you’ll teach the Assitant Instructor courses as well as assist Course Directors with courses.

PADI TEC COURSES

DIVE AT SIPADAN TURTLE'S TOMB

PADI’s Tec Courses are available to help you explore more of the underwater world and the ways you can experience it. These courses enable you to be self-reliant underwater, taking on additional tanks and providing you with additional skills that will enhance your experience of Sipadan.

Sipadan’s dramatic Turtle Tomb Cavern is the perfect challenge for these courses, and divers are sure to be amazed what a difference a slightly different set up can make to the entire experience.

PADI provides experienced instructors and well-suited sites for you to take the course while also maximising your experience of Sipadan. All of the PADI Tec Courses lead up to the final Deep Diver package which covers everything from the basics to advanced and technical diving skills.
